Description:

Northwestern Europe, Scandinavia to British Isles, Viking period, ca. 9th to 12th century. One of the more desirable of all Viking objects due to the popularity of several documentary shows about these fascinating peoples, the Marvel movies featuring Thor and his massive hammer and because these are wearable as jewelry. Solid silver pendant on suspension loop in one of the many variants to the Thor's hammer. Cast silver impressed with star-like designs, reverse left blank. Vikings were known to wear their fortunes as jewelry and this may have indicated this person was not all that wealthy but still wanted to show his allegiance to the Viking clan. Size: .825" W x 1.625" H (2.1 cm x 4.1 cm)

Mjolnir pendants were worn as religious amulets throughout the Viking era, symbolizing Thor's protection, strength, and power over storms and battles. Typically made of silver and suspended on silver chains, these amulets were worn by both men and women as powerful emblems of pagan faith and identity, especially during the spread of Christianity across Scandinavia. Some even survived into the Christian era, representing a blend of old and new beliefs. This item has been XRF tested and results are consistent with objects from this region.
