Description:

Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A stunning ovoid bracelet comprised of highly-reflective silver with a small wrist opening, perhaps made for a young woman. The exterior surface displays two bands of impressed stippled motifs along the outer edges and a slightly-raised mid-rib, with each terminal comprised of a flattened area. Vikings hoarded precious metals, especially silver, to a great degree. In Viking Scotland alone, for example, we know of thirty-one Viking age hoards containing silver - and those are just the ones we know about - while Viking Ireland has nearly double that! Silver jewelry formed a huge component of hoards, and functioned as a wearable form of currency. Size: 2.25" W (5.7 cm); size of opening: 0.5" H (1.3 cm); weight: 17 grams.
