Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A set of 2 hand-built and red-slipped pottery bowls, each decorated with beige linear motifs and resting upon a trio of hollow conical legs; the more petite vessel features an abstract zoomorphic head projecting from the front, perhaps a turtle. Size of largest: 8" W x 4.125" H (20.3 cm x 10.5 cm); of zoomorphic vessel: 6" L x 5.2" W x 2.8" H (15.2 cm x 13.2 cm x 7.1 cm)

  • Smaller bowl with losses to area of 1 leg and snout of zoomorphic head as shown; larger bowl is intact. Each vessel with light abrasions and fading to pigment, otherwise in great condition. Nice linear motifs. Previous inventory label beneath each base.
