Thomas M. Domiani (American, XX). Brass on plaster sculpture of buffalo, 1957. Inscribed "57 / DOMIANI / WESTERN ORIGINALS" on base. A brass covered plaster sculpture of a buffalo by California artist and Hollywood western prop maker / designer Thomas M. Domiani of Ontario, California. Tom Damiani achieved great success in the 1950s, creating display pieces and props for movie studios as well as the life-sized figures for Walt Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride. He also painted portraits of indigenous sitters and made sculptures of animals like this buffalo. Some of his Native American themed works were displayed at the "The Hall of the Tribes" - a mini museum with rooms dedicated to the Winnebago, Miami, and Dakota tribes at the Thunderbird Motel, an Indian-themed motel in Bloomington, Minnesota during the 1960s.
