Description:

Robert Natkin (American, 1930-2010). "Coltrane" lithograph using 5 separate stones, from Apollo Series, 1971. Signed and dated in pencil on lower right. Inscription "For Elaine Dubois" on lower left. As is often the case for Natkin's work, it is part of a series called "Apollo" and was created using columns, shifting planes, and grids. Natkin was inspired by the lively and lyrical use of color by Matisse and Bonnard, Paul Klee's Cubism, jazz music, and film noir masters such as Alfred Hitchcock. A magnificent work, set in a custom frame under glass. Size: 23.5" L x 35.5" W (59.7 cm x 90.2 cm); 29.75" L x 41.5" W (75.6 cm x 105.4 cm) framed

About the artist: Born in Chicago, Robert Natkin graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1952. He then married artist Judith Dolnick, and they lived in Chicago where Natkin and a colleague opened the Wells Street Gallery which operated from 1957 to 1959. When Wells Gallery closed, Natkin moved to New York City and began showing his art with Poindexter Gallery.
