Robert "Bob" Kussy (Canadian, 1959 to 2023) "Egg Stealer," whalebone & antler carving, ca. 2000 CE. A fantastical spirit sculpture carved from whale bone and antler. The grotesque head has asymmetrical horns, wings attached via wires, and spikes along the legs - a hybrid of Arctic animals and demon / trickster spirit. A large egg is gleefully held in his hands as if running from a nest - Kussy's carvings are known for their playful and entertaining carvings that incorporate Inuit culture and traditional crafts. Kussy is an internationally exhibited artist and married to Inuit artist, Goot Ashoona, together they established Ashoona Studios in Yellowknife, currently located in Elie, Manitoba. Kussy and the Ashoona family were also featured in the documentary "Carved in Stone." Size: 9" L x 8" W x 10.5" H (22.9 cm x 20.3 cm x 26.7 cm)

Provenance: private Thornton, Colorado, USA collection, acquired from Gallery of the Midnight Sun, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada in 2000.
