Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely, hand-built pottery figure seated with hands on hips and legs extended outward with chair legs extending from the posterior stabilizing the otherwise off-kilter pose. Prominent, raised bands adorn the knees, while the elongated head displays recessed eyes, a pinched nose, a slightly open mouth, and heavily ornamented ears evocative of high status. Size: 8.4" L x 8.3" W x 15.2" H (21.3 cm x 21.1 cm x 38.6 cm)

Provenance: private Owen collection, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA, acquired in the 1990s from a US-based dealer
