Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. A striking, higher than 22 karat gold link-in-link necklace with 21 dark blue lapis beads - most of which are rounded though the 2 largest are rough cut which was also popular in the Classical period - and long, cylindrical lapis bead used as a pendant at the base of the necklace, rounded, all secured by a hook and eye clasp. Lovely, wearable, and quite rare. Length of chain: 12.75" L (32.4 cm); size of pendant: 0.5" W (1.3 cm); total weight: 8.1 grams

Provenance: private Dere Family Collection, New York City, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s - 2000s
