Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A stunning free-blown glass aryballos presenting a substantive near spherical body, a tubular neck, a funnel mouth, and two heavy trailed handles joining neck (attached just under the rim) to shoulders. The glass itself is a beautiful blue-green hue and is further embellished with silvery and rainbow iridescence of violet, pink, and aqua hues. An impressive example that was used for storing precious aromatic oils to use in a toilette or the public baths. Size: 3.2" in diameter x 3.9" H (8.1 cm x 9.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-collection Mr. John W. Anderson, Detroit, Michigan, USA, imported in 1926 from a Roman dealer; purportedly found between OId Via Ardeatina and the old Via Appia
