Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A beautiful ensemble of eleven beads comprised of either near-opaque, pale-green glass or opaque cobalt-blue glass. The green glass beads are nearly spherical in form and accentuated with smaller circles of white, brown, or red glass, and the blue glass beads have faceted exterior surfaces. Each bead is drilled through the middle for suspension, and all are mounted in an alternating chromatic pattern on a modern sterling silver chain. A beautiful and wearable example of ancient Viking glasswork! Size (necklace): 20.25" L (51.4 cm); size of largest bead: 0.25" W (0.6 cm); quality of sterling silver: 92.5% or higher.
