Description:

Europe, Medieval period, ca. 11th to 12th century CE. A fabulous cast-iron boot spur meant to be worn while riding a horse. The spur consists of two curved attachment bands, with a double strap loop on one terminal and a single loop on the other, as well as a midpoint which projects outwards with a lengthy prick spike and a square stop ring. Dozens of silver stippled points embellish the exterior of each band, this lavis decoration suggesting that perhaps it was intended for a high-ranking military official. Spurs of this form would have been worn by men and women alike, and would have been utilized for everything from farming and equestrian travel to commanding a war horse to advance on the field of battle. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 4.5" L x 3.375" W x 3" H (11.4 cm x 8.6 cm x 7.6 cm); 4.375" H (11.1 cm) on included custom stand.
