Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming depiction of an adult female ram nursing a young ram lamb while standing atop an integral tiered rectangular plinth. The adult boasts a raised head with petite horns, a slender body adorned with faint stippling, and a curled tail, and the ram lamb huddles beneath its mother for warmth and sustenance. The entire composition is covered in layers of dark-brown patina which imbue it with a lustrous presentation. Size: 1.375" L x 2.125" H (3.5 cm x 5.4 cm).

  • Condition: Old loss to one plinth foot. Minor abrasions to both animals and base, with light softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits as well as fabulous dark-brown patina throughout. Old inventory label beneath plinth.
