Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. Truly breathtaking! Comprised of a grand drop-shaped trail of marvered cobalt blue glass with a loop at the top for suspension, perhaps this stirrer was used for mixing special ingredients in wine! Note how ribbons of mosaic canes of glass were artfully marvered into the surface to create elegant swirls and swags of turquoise blue, ribbon-like patterns throughout. What's more layers of silvery and fiery ice blue iridescence imbue the stirrer with even more beauty! Much like gold-band glass, such glassworks created by using various canes of glass are also called "color-band" or "marbled glass". Size: 3.875" H (9.8 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
