Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A beautiful gold ring comprised of 88% gold (equivalent to 21K+ gold) with a thick band, gradually-expanding shoulders, and a raised bezel surrounded with concentric ovals. Within the bezel is a delicately-carved, wine-hued carnelian intaglio with a carved scene depicting a hooved satyr seated upon a stone outcropping with a small goat in his lap. A fabulous example of wearable Roman artistry! Size (ring): 0.875" W x 0.95" H (2.2 cm x 2.4 cm); size (intaglio): 0.4" L x 0.25" W (1 cm x 0.6 cm); US ring size 7.5; quality of gold: 88% (equivalent to 21K+); total weight: 4.3 grams.
