Description:

A larger Pre-Columbian figure of the rare Autlan variety, from ancient Mexico, circa 100 BCE - 300 CE. While many associate this type of figure with the Colima figurine tradition, it is actually related to the Jalisco region figurine tradition. Figures of this type often feature a blend of styles from surrounding areas, and are distinct in the way they exhibit fine, sharp incised detailing, and more sensitive modeling than other figurine styles from the same time period. This example measures approximately 6" tall and depicts a seated female, bearing fine incised and painted features. Provenance: Former Indiana, USA collection. All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Repaired clean breaks at the right lower arm and waist, with minor loss at the tip of the right foot. Otherwise, expected weathering, wear, chipping and abrasions overall, with excellent root marks and mineral deposits.
