Description:

A large Pre-Columbian figural vessel of the rarer Coahuayana, Colima type, ca. 300 BCE - 300 CE. ~7-1/2" tall and about 8" tall resting on the acrylic cylindrical stand, included. The vessel includes a small lid or dish that fits on either side over the opening of the vessel. It is unclear if this piece was made for this purpose, but the color and patina match that of the larger vessel. If original to the piece, this may have served as a lid or a small serving or offering cup for the contents. The distinct style of the eyes, nose and mouth is indicative of certain varieties of the rarer Coahuayana type of Colima material. Provenance: Former Indiana, USA collection. All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Intact overall with a large but stable stress crack over the chest up to the neck. Otherwise, relatively minor chipping, abrasions, loss, weathering and wear overall.
