Description:

Native American, North America, New Mexico, ca. 1 to 500 CE. A hand woven sandal made from leaves of the desert yucca plant. Yucca leaves were used either whole, split or separated. Sometimes they were shredded and spun into cordage. Most often the yucca was woven into the sandal's sole. Ties and loops were added to secure the sandal to the wearer's feet. The fine interlacing exemplified here demonstrates the Anasazi weavers' genius as textile artists. Given its size, this example was most likely created for an adult. Comes with wooden insert. Size: 11.5" L x 5" W (29.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
