Description:

Native American, southwest corner of New Mexico along Mogollon Rim into Arizona, Mogollon culture, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. An unusual ceramic bowl with a shallow profile, a corrugated exterior, a smooth interior, and the entire circumference of the rim repeatedly perforated by a series of tight, small holes. The Mogollon peoples excelled in the art of ceramics. Mogollon pottery is typically constructed of iron-rich volcanic clays which usually turn to dark brown. Vessels were constructed using the coil-and-scrape technique. They created the corrugated effect by leaving the coils largely intact on the exterior. Size: 12.1" W x 2.6" H (30.7 cm x 6.6 cm)

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
