Description:

Native American, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi), Kayenta Heartland / northern Arizona region, ca. 1150 to 1250 CE. A wonderful pottery ladle of the Kayenta Black-on-White type, presenting a long, tubular handle with a loop at the end and a deep, hemispherical bowl adorned with geometric, zigzag, and spiraling motifs. Note how the bands travel in 4 different directions, perhaps representing the 4 cardinal directions of North, East, South, and West. Made for stirring and serving food, this example was probably ultimately deposited with a deceased member of the community or left in an abandoned domestic space. Size: 5" W x 10.4" H (12.7 cm x 26.4 cm)
