West Mexico, ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE. This figure displays impressively due to its imposing size, and depicts a female holding a large, tubular drum at her shoulder. She s shown wearing a skirt and head adornment. Drums were employed as an important part of ceremony and ritual in ancient West Mexican cultures, the rhythms from which propelled participants through trance and altered states of consciousness. ~13-3/4" tall x ~10"W.
