Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 250 BCE - 300 CE. Here we have a hollow, hand-modeled prisoner figure, nude save perhaps for some nose and ear ornaments that once would have dangled from perforations created by the artisan and an attractive red, burnished finish characteristic of the Colima style. We cannot help but sympathize with this figure as he hunches over with bound hands crossed at uplifted knees. The figure is further modeled with large coffee-bean appliqué eyes and protuberant nose and ears. 10"T x 5"W x 7"D Provenance: Ex-George Martin Collection, Georgia, USA All items in this auction are legal to buy/sell under U.S. statute covering cultural patrimony per United States Code 2600, CHAPTER 14 -- CONVENTION ON CULTURAL PROPERTY, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
