Pre-Columbian, Panama/Costa Rica, probable Diquis period, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. This is red-slipped red ware pottery with three legs and a short-eared, snub-nosed animal face - possibly a bat's - on one side, and a curly tail on the other side. The interior of the bowl is also painted. There is little known about the Diquis culture but this was probably an object that would have been entombed with a body. Size: 7.75" L x 5.75" W x 4.5" H (19.7 cm x 14.6 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Hooper Collection, California, acquired via family descent
