Western Europe, probably England or France, Neoclassical period, ca. 18th century CE. A gorgeous carnelian intaglio that is incised with the image of a left-facing woman, nude, who presents above an altar. The woman dons a lengthy sash that is draped around her shoulder while holding a circular object and a straight object, perhaps a laurel wreath and a flower or scepter. The altar itself is low to the ground and topped with a circular object impaled with a burning torch. The intaglio is set within a lustrous 64.9% gold ring made for wearability. Size (intaglio): 0.48" L x 0.38" W x 0.10" H (1.2 cm x 1 cm x 0.3 cm); (ring setting): 0.68" L x 0.83" W x 0.86" H (1.7 cm x 2.1 cm x 2.2 cm); gold quality: 64.9% (equivalent to 15K+); weight: 5.2 grams; US ring size: 6.25
