Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built redware effigy vessel of a nude female figure. She stands on delineated legs and dramatically arched feet, the arms arching to the ample hips, with applied nodules on the shoulders that represent raised scarification. The surface is highly burnished and decorated in vibrant red-orange pigment. Her elongated head has slit eyes that lead into the hollow interior, a pointed nose, impressed mouth with teeth, large ears, and a circular opening atop her head. Size: 5" L x 1.75" W x 9.65" H (12.7 cm x 4.4 cm x 24.5 cm)
