Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Xochipala culture, Mesoamerican Formative Phase, ca. 13th to 10th century CE; Southern Mexico to Guatemala, late Olmec to Proto-Maya culture, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE; West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 4 hand-built pottery figures from various times in ancient Mexico. First is a petite Olmecoid features seated on thick legs. Neck is a seated Xochipala female figure with one missing arm and one leg crossed over the other. The 2 remaining figures are of Colima origin, a woman and a man, the larger being the male. Size of largest: 3.25" W x 8.375" H (8.3 cm x 21.3 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

  • Condition: Head of Olmecoid figure reattached; Xochipala figure missing left arm; left arm of shorter Colima figure reattached; and larger Colima figure repaired from several pieces. All with minor earthen deposits and softening to some finer details. Nice preservation to figural forms.
