Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A miniature cast bronze figure of a standing goat, life-like and detailed despite its size. The fur is shown as flowing, with a deep texture; the goat stands majestically, with its head turned back and its large horns curving back from its head. Small animal figurines may be models of larger statues that Romans would have seen in public life; they also probably served as votives to be given at temples and placed in altars. The goat was associated with Bacchus, god of wine and nature. Size: 1.4" W x 1.1" H (3.6 cm x 2.8 cm); 1.4" H (3.6 cm) on included custom stand.
