Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century BCE. A heavy cast silver boar figurine with applied silver ears and tusks. The boar has a delightful style, with a tall, curved crest on its back representing the ridge of hair on a real boar; incised lines on the crest and body creating the impression of fur; small, incised eyes, and a large snout, phallus, and tail. He stands on four sturdy legs. The shape of the figure closely resembles several bronze boars found in the Hounslow Hoard, which is likely from Roman Britain; the Romans are known for their models of animals, probably created as votive figures to be given as offerings or kept in home altars. Size: 1.9" W x 1.2" H (4.8 cm x 3 cm); 54.7 grams
