Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pretty cast silver bead with four bands of granulation around its body, giving it a segmented, cylindrical form. The ends of the bead are thin silver sheet, cut into triangles and bent slightly inward, to hold in place blue glass beads, one at either end, which are inside of the cylinder. A unique and elegant bead. Size: 1.45" W x 0.3" H (3.7 cm x 0.8 cm); 3.3 grams

  • Condition: Dark patina on silver surface. One of the glass beads is loose and moves inside the bead. Both glass beads have a pearlescent patina. A professional jeweler could easily make this wearable on a chain.
