Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery bowl of sizable form with corseted walls and a flared rim. The interior is decorated with 3 large, abstract human heads with huge headdresses, a band of glyphs above, and an encircled X pattern in the center; the exterior surfaces exhibit additional glyphs and tassel-form decorations. The main register depicts two pairs of seated human figures, perhaps scribes, each in front of a seated dog while a trio of scribe-like figures sits in front of another dog - each figure with an outstretched hand as if writing. Size: 8.4" W x 4" H (21.3 cm x 10.2 cm)
