Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Post Classic period, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. An intriguing plumbate figural vessel with a round, bulbous body with low relief face and knobs around the body, and incised linear patterns, covered in a lustrous plumbate glaze. The Maya produced a pottery with a hard and shiny surface known as plumbate ware which was probably made by a very small number of artisans around the Mexico/Guatemala border who then exported them throughout wider Mesoamerica.
