Description:

Classical World, Italy, Etruria, ca. 768 to 264 BCE. An attractive wheel-thrown ceramic kantharos meant for consuming wine. This vessel is defined by a wide body with a flared rim, a pair of high-arching handles, and a deep basin, all atop a petite circular foot. The entire vessel is highly burnished and covered in lustrous black glaze. Bucchero is a specifically-Etruscan style of pottery with a smooth, shiny, jet-black finish. This type of vessel may have been buried with offerings in the tombs of a recently-deceased individual, as was the case for much fine Etruscan pottery. Size: 7.125" W x 4.375" H (18.1 cm x 11.1 cm).
