Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A hollow-molded pottery standing figure known as a "togatus" given the toga draped across the body from one shoulder. The figure stands atop an integral rectangular plinth, holds both hands against the sides of the waist, and has sloping shoulders. The head, which is not original to the body, depicts a chubby-faced cherub with a broad nose, pouty lips, and wide-set eyes beneath a shaggy coiffure. Size: 2.3" W x 7.625" H (5.8 cm x 19.4 cm).

  • Condition: Head is not original to body as shown and as stated in Bonhams listing. Head attached to neck with light adhesive residue along break line. Small nicks and abrasions to base, legs, body, and head, with light encrustations, and softening to finer details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
