Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A fine gathering of three hand-built pottery figures with distinctly 'flat' forms. The largest figure sits in a cross-legged position, holds both hands atop the lap, and wears an intricate necklace. The second figure holds attenuated arms out from stocky shoulders and wears a simple belt around the waist. The shortest figure, perhaps representing a child, sits with extended legs and holds one hand to the pouty mouth. Each elongated face has coffee-bean-shaped eyes, bulbous noses, and full lips. A lovely ensemble from ancient West Mexico! Size of largest (hands in lap): 2.875" W x 3.75" H (7.3 cm x 9.5 cm).
