Pre-Columbian, Guerrero, Mexico, Mezcala culture. Ca. 500-200 BCE. This 2-piece lot features breathtaking examples of abstract standing idols from the Mezcala region of Mexico. The taller piece is carved from medium gray hardstone with minimally incised, stylized facial features, squared jaw and shoulders, and linear arms held to stomach. The other example is carved from a pink stone with rosy and cream variations in the hues. It likewise shows minimally incised, stylized facial features, squared jaw and shoulders, and characteristically stylized limbs.
