Description:

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to early 5th century CE. A gorgeous jar of a sizable form, hand-blown from near-opaque, pale blue-green glass. The vessel has a concave base and rough pontil scar, a globular body adorned with nine uneven indentations, a smooth shoulder which tapers to a cylindrical neck, a flared, collared, and rolled rim, and a pair of applied trail handles with folded thumb rests. Though weathering film envelops most exterior surfaces, the entire vessel is covered in brilliant layers of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence. A fine example of late Roman glass-blowing artistry! Size: 4.875" W x 6.75" H (12.4 cm x 17.1 cm).
