Description:

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A stunning free-blown, transparent aubergine-colored glass vessel, of a globular form. The vessel is comprised of a concave base with a pontil mark, a roughly spherical body, rounded shoulders, a wide mouth, and a collared rim which became a bit off-set during the forming or cooling process. The aubergine color of the glass indicates that it was probably from Sidon, in the Levant, where this color was made using the crushed up shells of native mollusks. Size: 4.25" W x 4" H (10.8 cm x 10.2 cm)
