Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 BCE to 300 CE. A colorful woven textile made from camelid wool fibers (likely alpaca or llama) dyed in hues of red, yellow, blue, and green upon a walnut brown ground. The threads alternate in a repeating pattern of red and yellow stripes flanked by thinner teal and dark-blue bars - each separated by brown bands. In Nazca burial, the dead were wrapped in layers of precious cloth. Elite people were given brightly embroidered textiles like this one, along with jewelry decorated with feathers and precious metals. Mounted atop a museum-quality display fabric, this large textile is perfect for framing and displaying. Size (textile): 58" L x 43" W (147.3 cm x 109.2 cm); (cloth backing): 74" L x 59" W (188 cm x 149.9 cm)
