Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

North America, Colonial/Federal America, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A massive cast iron cooking pot, similar to a Dutch oven but lacking legs, with a rounded base, a wide rim, and a heavy handle attached via thick pins at the side. This was made to be placed over hot coals, and probably once had a matching lid. The rim certifies that it is "Warranted 13 Gallons" of capacity. Similar items have been found in colonial kitchens from colonial Williamsburg, at Monticello, and archaeological sites of houses from the period. Size: 27" W x 13.5" H (68.6 cm x 34.3 cm)

  • Condition: Patina on surface, with signs of wear commensurate with age. The letters on the rim are somewhat difficult to read due to light encrustation. Overall in nice condition with very clear form.
