Pre-Columbian, Peru, Huari / Wari culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel depicting the head of a regal figure emanating from the top of the spherical body. The rounded shoulder is decorated along the front with dense curvilinear bands in hues of tan and black atop a red ground while the face itself is adorned in deep red and orange hues; linear motifs decorate the exterior of the hat above. Size: 6.6" L x 8" W x 10.9" H (16.8 cm x 20.3 cm x 27.7 cm)

Provenance: private Carroll collection, Georgia, USA, by descent; ex-private Jim Carroll collection, Maryland, USA, acquired 1960s
