Description:

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A trio of forged-iron tools including 2 axe heads and a curved spear head. The axe heads were likely used for chopping, splitting, and shaping softer substances. The spear head has a sharpened edge on one side that suggests this was a utilitarian tool, perhaps a farming implement, rather than a weapon intended for battle. Size of largest (dark axe head): 6.5" L x 1.5" W x 3.125" H (16.5 cm x 3.8 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: private Englewood, Colorado USA collection; ex-Martin Boxer Estate, USA, collected between 1960 to 1975
