Description:

Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A delightful pottery kylix boasting black-figure decoration of palmettes flanking each arched handle and target motifs on the underside of the foot and at the center of the basin. The elegant form is comprised of a broad rim and a shallow basin supported by a slender leg and flared foot. Kylikes like this example would serve as drinking vessels at symposiums with the exterior providing for conversation during the gathering and the interior being slowly revealed as more of the liquid was consumed. A lovely and elegant example! Size: 9.6" W x 2.7" H (24.4 cm x 6.9 cm)
