Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A curved copper knife or tool blade with a slender tang for securing to a handle. While this blade could certainly be utilitarian for farming and domestic work, bronze and copper instruments for mummification were also used. Embalming required some cutting of soft tissue and bone in order to remove internal organs. Size: 6.75" L x 1.125" W (17.1 cm x 2.9 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Nancy and Earl Keefer collection, 2000s
