Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1300 to 1470 CE. A huge, colorful textile, made of cotton and/or camelid fibers, and decorated with horizontal registers. Each one is painted with figural entities - from top to bottom: repeated frontal faces with wide open eyes and mouths; three prone wild feline, likely jaguar creatures crawling toward the left; three prone wild feline, likely jaguar creatures, each one holding tumi weapons and crawling toward the right; three prone wild feline, likely jaguar creatures, each one holding tumi weapons and crawling toward the left. Each register is framed by red and cream striped borders with wider red bands between. This large-scale textile is nicely framed under glass. Size: 27.75" L x 22" W (70.5 cm x 55.9 cm); 31.5" L x 25.5" W (80 cm x 64.8 cm) with frame
