Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1300 to 1450. A beautiful piece of fine, gauze-like lace comprised of cotton threads of creamy white hues - woven and knotted (somewhat akin to tatting) into a repeated avian or zoomorphic motif occupying each diamond-shaped panel bordered by an angular meander motif. The textiles of Peru demonstrate immense artistic and technical developments achieved by the Andean civilizations. This elegant example floats on a black fabric backing and is framed under glass. A fabulous example of ancient Andean handmade lace. Size: lace measures 22.25" L x 18.5" W (56.5 cm x 47 cm); 26.875" L x 24.75" W (68.3 cm x 62.9 cm) including frame
