Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A hefty cast-copper axe head with a distinct T-shaped form. The axe is defined by a thick handle with protruding shoulder tangs, an elongated blade body, and a crescent-shaped edge. Though its form appears to be better tailored for utilitarian tasks rather than warfare, the unsharpened edge suggests this piece was perhaps made solely for ceremonial or funerary purposes. Fine green and brown patina envelops the entire axe. Size: 4.7" W x 6" H (11.9 cm x 15.2 cm); 6.4" H (16.3 cm) on included custom stand.
