Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved wooden sarcophagus mask depicting an elegant countenance covered in layers of white gesso. The delicate face presents with a slender triangular nose, full lips, almond-shaped eyes beneath thin brows, and a tall headdress that sits low on the forehead. Areas of black pigment accentuate the subtle features of the eyes and brows, and stripes of blue and red streak across the front of the headdress. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 4.75" W x 8.3" H (12.1 cm x 21.1 cm).

Chips and abrasions to nose, eyes, cheeks, headdress, and verso, with fading to original pigment, several stable fissures, and extensive but inactive insect damage on verso. Nice traces of original painted gesso across obverse.
