Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved alabaster cup of honey-yellow hues with natural banding that illuminates when held next to a bright light. The cup has a slightly rounded but stable base, an inverted bell-shaped body, a deep basin, and a lightly flared rim. The interior has been drilled out using a series of progressively finer bits as well as copious amounts of abrasive sand, and faint traces of the original drill marks are still visible along the basin walls. Size: 2.7" W x 2.375" H (6.9 cm x 6 cm).

Provenance: ex-private R. Sorge collection, Germany, acquired in 1980's
