Description:

China, Eastern Han Dynasty, ca. 300 BCE. A fascinating example of a terracotta tomb warrior. His teeth are bared in a ferocious grin, and he leans back on one leg as he prepares to throw the wooden spear that would once have rested in his right hand. His left arm is stretched out to his side, probably meant to hold a shield that has long since broken off. His hair is piled atop his head and he wears a simple belted tunic. Interestingly, his legs/pants are textured in a ribbed pattern. Remnants of white post fired colors cover much of his body. 14"H "One adorns the dead as though they were still living, and sends them to the grave with forms symbolic of life." -Xumzi, follower of Confucius.
