Description:

China, Eastern Han Dynasty, ca. 300 BCE. A terracotta statue of a spear-throwing warrior. His gaze is fierce, teeth bared in a display of intimidation. His arm is pulled back, ready to throw the wooden spear that once rested in his hand. His hair is elaborately piled atop his head, and he wears a simple tunic held by a belt. A striking example! 13"H "One adorns the dead as though they were still living, and sends them to the grave with forms symbolic of life." -Xumzi, follower of Confucius. Provenance: ex-Splendors of the World, CA.
