North Africa, Morocco, Central High Atlas, Late Cretaceous (Turonian), ca. 90 million years ago. An uncommon species of horned ammonite called Mamites. These ammonites are found in the Cretaceous sediments of the Central High Atlas mountains in Morocco. The fossil has been prepared to stand at an angle on its original matrix which has been prepared to serve as a natural base. Shell detail is amazingly well-preserved with dramatic, heavy horn processes. Rare internal leaf-pattern anatomy is plainly visible! Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm)
